Pad Mounted Switch Standards

Pad mounted switches are carefully regulated by a number of agencies under specific legal industry codes, recommendations and guidelines.  We strive to maintain and beat any and all applicable standards in the business. TEMCo Pad Mounted Switch Enclosures and Switch Options

Pad mount switches or pad mounted switchgear generally require more elaborate lockable and defensible security enclosures.  Pad mounted switches are more accessibility than pole mounted devices or those in buildings that are wall mounted.  Exposure to damage related to foot traffic and vehicular collision or other bumps and scrapes can therefore be a significant issue with pad mounted switches.  Restricted exposure, alone, helps protect installations in those other locations.  All our pad mounted switch enclosures are to the most rigorous standards and meet all applicable codes and industry regulations.  They are also weather proof and will hold up to dirty and foul conditions.  Top quality stainless steel enclosures can be ordered when factors such as salt mist and spray or corrosive chemical vapors are to be expected.  Waterproof transformer products are available for instances where this is needed.  Keep in mind that you may also want to install defensive pylons (not included with your pad mounted switch and pad mounted transformer) as an added deterrent to damage by collision. 

A variety of switching configurations are available.  Pad mounted switches are often manual, but can be automatic or remote, as necessary.  As well, pad mounted switches that service simple or complex transformer set-ups, low or high voltage installations, substations, industrial complex installations, and other such configurations can be ordered to fit.  Let us know if you need remote-monitoring-capability connections and/or alarm-capability connections installed in with the pad mounted switch. 

A replacement pad mounted switch my require that you specify the placement of the incoming and outgoing conduit connections.  Existing connections may or may not match an off-the-shelf item.  It may be more cost-effective to order a custom-fitted set-up than to have to remove and replace existing pads and conduit leads. 

It is also advisable to check on updated codes and requirements.  You may find that your older installation is covered by new regulations when it is upgraded or when replacements are made.  Such codes are mainly to assure that you have the best economy along with the most safety and performance from your installation.  Newer standards also establish the use of pad mounted switches and other switching gear where none were originally installed years ago. Or, it may even have originally been a non-standard installation to start with.   These codes are not only for safety concerns, but helps save money and time when servicing, monitoring or replacing equipment, or during recovery from emergency power failures.
